A large sawfish brought alongside for tagging. The rostrum is the protruding " saw" and its tooth-like appendages are called "denticles."

The smalltooth sawfish or wide sawfish (Pristis pectinata) is a sawfish of the family Pristidae. It is found in shallow tropical and subtropical waters in coastal parts of the Atlantic, including the Mediterranean.
