캐나다기러기 (카나다기러기)
영명: Canada goose
학명: Branta canadensis
[분류] 기러기목(Anseriformes) 오리과(Anatidae)에 딸린 기러기의 하나.
[형태] 몸길이 56 ~ 92cm. 목은 길고 검은색, 머리와 부리는 검은색이며 뺨은 흰색이다. 몸은 회갈색이며 아랫배와 위꼬리덮깃, 아래꼬리덮깃은 흰색이고, 꼬리와 등은 검은색이다.
[울음소리] 울음소리는 날 때나 한 개체가 무리리로부터 떨어질 때 낮고 힘없이 음악적으로 '아흐-혼크' 하고 운다.
[서식지] 초지, 호수, 숲의 소택지, 툰드라, 초원의 수령 등에 서식한다.
[번식] 대부분 습지에서 번식하지만 호수 주변이나 건초 더미 위에 번식하는 경우도 있다. 흰색의 알을 4 ~ 8개 낳는다.
[분포] 알래스카, 캐나다, 미국에 분포하며 분포 지역에 따라 크기와 색깔이 매우 다양하다.
[현황] 우리 나라에서는 보기 힘든 미조로 1992년 1월 23일에 주남 저수지에서 월동한 2개체의 기록이 있다.
