The bleak mountains of the southern Andes are the stronghold of the Andean condor. The largest of the vultures, it has the greatest wing area of all birds of prey. It roosts on the rugged, windswept crags, and soars majestically in the gales, sometimes floating for hours without a single flap of its powerful wings. |
