Australian tree frog

Scientific name: Litoria caerulea
Photographer: John Cancalosi
Origen: Australia

The color of this frog's skin derives from yellowish carotenoid pigments
in its food. The scientific name of the frog, however, means "Blue
frog". Although there are mutant blue forms of this species found in
the wild, the name did not come from them. Instead, it is the result of
an accident in the laboratory in which the preservative used to store
the frog resulted in a chemical reaction which turned the skin blue.
