Chamois (Rupicapra rupicapra)

The chamois is one of the most nimble of all mountain dwellers. When in danger, it flees onto sheer rock faces, often leaping across gaps several metres to escape its predators. Pseudo-claws on the back of the chamois' feet provide extra grip on steep, grassy slopes. When facing downhill, the chamois presses its hooves deep into the turf so that the pseudo-claws press into the ground.
