사이드와인더 Crotalus cerastes
살모사과에 딸린 방울뱀의 하나. 몸길이 60~120cm쯤이며 몸빛은 갈색인데 바탕색보다 짙은 같은색의 반점을 가지고 있다. 독특한 이동방식으로 몸통 아래의 모래가 무너지는 것을 막고 있다. 항상 일정한 방향으로 움직여 모래 위에 평행한 물결모양의 선을 남긴다.

The sidewinder (Crotalus cerastes), also known as the horned rattlesnake and sidewinder rattlesnake, is a venomous pit viper species belonging to the genus Crotalus (rattlesnakes) and is found in the desert regions of the southwestern United States and northwestern Mexico. Crotalus cerastes is sometimes referred to as the horned rattlesnake because of the raised supraocular scales above its eyes. This adaptation may help shade the eyes or prevent sand drifting over them as the snake lies almost buried in it.
