This species of butterfly is common in the Mediterranean, in Europe and in Western Asia. Large groups of Euplagia quadripunctaria (rhodosensis) can be found sheltering from the summer heat in The Valley of Butterflies, natural park in Petaloudes, (Petaloùdes,Πεταλούδες), located at a distance of 23 km from the capital Rhodes. In the end of May - beginning of June millions of moths gathered on the trees, in some cases covering entire tree trunks and flying only during the night.
