Description: Large shell cone-shaped shaped nail. Voraceous plant feeder and very destructive to landscape and homes. Picked up in baggage by PPQ Officer Berk Brown. As an agricultural pest in Florida, the shell was eradicated (see Abbott, 1989, Compendium of Landshells, pg.78) in 1972. Found in Hawaii and American Samoa, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Tahiti, etc

The giant African snail or giant African land snail (Achatina fulica) is a species of large land snail that belong in the Achatinidae family. The species is native to East Africa, but it has been widely introduced to other parts of the world through the pet trade, as a food resource, and by accidental introduction.
