Illuminated netdevil (Linophryne arborifera)

This coal black deep-sea anglerfish is native to the Atlantic Ocean (in tropical and subtropical parts) and the western Pacific Ocean, near Japan and New Zealand.

The "toad that fishes with a net" has a pearl-onion bioluminescent bulb on top of its head and hanging filaments below. Both of these unique extremities glow brightly to attract prey, which lead to its victims' demise thanks to its vicious chops. With ferociously fanged jaws, this beast could be considered "one of the most horrifying sea monsters" if it weren't for the fact that this fish is only as big as a baby's fist.
