방울뱀 Crotalus adamanteus
살모사과에 딸린 독사의 하나. 몸길이 2m쯤이고 몸빛은 청록색이다. 몸의 등면은 짙은 갈색에 마름모꼴 무늬가 있고 비늘은 27열이다. 꼬리 끝부분에 방울모양으로 된 표피가 변한 각질의 부분이 있어서 위험을 당할 때 흔들어 소리를 낸다.
