African White-backed Vulture, Gyps africanus, is an Old World vulture in the family Accipitridae. It is widespread throughout sub-Saharan Africa. The adult African White-backed Vulture is mostly black about the head and neck, with a sparse covering of yellowish down, and a sparse white ruff. It is brown over the shoulders and to the joint of the wing. Primary flight feathers are black, secondaries dark brown. The tail is also black. Most of the underparts are fulvous, except for white under-wings and a brown crop patch. The back and rump are white.

1361 is just proof that zebra stripes do *not* help zebras hide.
1362 is evidence that I hadn't found the "backlit exposure" control
on the camera by that day.
1368 - Adult elephants have no natural enemies larger than an insect.
(Or, as my wife said, "You don't get more dead than that.")
1369 - He's almost cute, isn't he?
1371 are the lions guarding their meal again.
1380 is all the vultures waiting for said lions to leave.
1388 is that great cheetah family agian.
(Note too the grass after the herd has been by)
1394 is the crossing into Ngorongoro crater if I recall correctly.
1396 - Each family of hippos stakes out its own chunk of river.
1399, 1400 - The crocks waiting for the next herd to try to cross.
1401 - And you can tell this is where they cross.
Kenya and Tanzania, Summer 2000.
Stills from digital video camera.
640x480 JPEG, mostly unretouched.
Missing numbers are due to chopping
out non-animal pictures (such as
scenery, plant life, etc.)
Released to the Public Domain,
but I would appriciate hearing about
commercial use of the photos.
