English Name: Duellman's Poison Dart Frog
Scientific Name: Dendrobates duellmani
Order: Anura

Range:
Known from the Tahuayo/Yarapa area of Loreto, Peru.

Description:
Males 15-17 mm, females 16-18 mm. The dorsum is black with three brilliant orange longitudinal lines, the median line usually extends the full length of the back. There is a bright yellow stripe extending from the labial region to the groin, extending onto the shoulder and upper thigh. The limbs are reticulated; the venter is yellow at the throat, fading to green on the chest and belly, then to blue on the hind legs with many large black spots.

Ecology
Habitat: terre firme forest.
Niche: carnivorous: prey includes insects and and any other small creatures it can catch.

Life History:
This small diurnal frog frog is most frequently seen on logs or among leaf litter in humid upland forest. Frequently found climbing the trunks of large trees, presumably to enter bromeliads. This species has just recently (1999) been described by R. Schulte.

Status:
Fairly common. At the Reserva Comunal Tamshiyacu-Tahuayo, this species has been found in the upland forest along the Quebrada Blanco.
