Common wasp (Vespula vulgaris)

The common wasp bears its sting, or aculeus, at or near the tip of its abdomen, in an organ that has evolved from the ovipositor. Although the sting of a common wasp can be painful, it is rarely dangerous. It is more likely to be troublesome to children and invalids, or if it affects delicate or perforated sections of blood capillaries. A few people are hypersensitive to wasp stings and may suffer shock.
