Description Table Of Contents: Male's glossy black back and bill contrast sharply with underparts, long red or pink legs. Female is browner above. Juvenile is brown above, with buffy edgings. The Stilt breeds and winters in a wide variety of wet habitats. Rare breeder on east coast; widespread but very local to the interior.
