Slightly larger than jackals, the dholes of India are formidable adversaries when they hunt together in a pack. They are quite capable of bringing down large grazing mammals such as buffalo, and will also attack and kill big carnivores like bears, leopard and even tigers. Dholes do much of their hunting in the forest. They stay in contact and coordinate the chase by calling to one another through the trees as they surround and close in on their chosen prey. |
