Madagascan Chameleon (Chamaeleo verrucosis)

Captured from a WONDERFUL MULTIMEDIA CD-ROM title,
"Eyewitness Encyclopedia of Nature",
Dorling Kindersley Multimedia, 1995

CAMOUFLAGE
SOME LIZARDS are brightly colored, but most are camouflaged to blend in with their surroundings. They use their camouflage so that their enemies and prey cannot see them. Some lizards have striking skin patterns that break up their body outline and make them less visible. Tree-dwelling lizards, called chameleons can change color by altering the amount of pigment in their skin cells.
MADAGASCAN CHAMELON - Flattened body, Gripping feet, Prehensile tail
This lizard can change its skin color rapidly and swivel its eyes independently.
