Spix's Guan (Penelope jacquacu)

Spix's Guan (Penelope jaquacu) is one of about a half a dozen similar species. It is named after an early Amazon explorer. These are noisy birds with a raucuous call often heard during breeding season. Although they are built like ground birds, they spend most of the time in trees.
