Most land molluscs travel by sending waves of muscle contractions along their feet. The land operculate snail, Pomatias elegans, however, is exceptional in that it "walks" with an almost bipedal gait. The snail sets up a crawling motion by moving the left side of its foot and immediately following the action through with its right side. |
