Graybanded Kingsnake (L.alterna)

These little beauties range from extreme south- western Texas to central Mexico hiding in the many rock outcroppings throughout their mountainous range. It feeds mainly on lizards in the wild. This striking specimen is known as the "Blair's" phase. It also comes in a form known as the "Alterna" phase which has alternating broken bands of black. It can be extremely variable in color and pattern, and a single clutch of eggs can have neonates of both pattern types, and/or variations of the two. This specimen was selectively bred by Douglas H. Mong
