The collared peccary - a pig-like mammal - inhabits arid habitat such as the Texan scrubland. It usually lives in small groups and is most active during the cooler parts of the day - in the early morning and late afternoon. The peccary's diet consists of roots, fruit, birds' eggs and prickly pear cacti. |
