As the summer rain stops, all the young winged termites gather toward
the ant mound to find mates. As soon as the worker ants open an emergency
exit hole, the young winged termite couples rush out for a honeymoon flight.
They do not fly far but rather land soon after and tear off their wings.
Those that do not endup in the stomach of birds or lizards make a new home
in the ground or trees and begin mating. |
