형태적 특성
성숙한 수컷은 흑회색이며 밝은색의 점들이 있다. 암컷의 체색은 수컷에 비해 밝은 색이다. 타 부리고래에 비하여 갈퀸 흔적이 드물다.

생태적 특성
체장은 최대 암컷 4.9m, 수컷 4.8m 이며 출생시의 체장은 2~2.5 m 로 알려져 있다.
