FAMILY OF CHIMPANZEES. The great artist here represents a charming scene in the home lite of the Chimpanzee. After having fed, the family— father, mother and child— are thirsty, and they have come to a cool and sparkling spring in the great African forest, far away from the Man-hunter, who seeks their lives. But there are Leopards and Crocodiles that are to be dreaded, and while the father slakes his thirst, the mother, with her head thrown slightly back, shades her eyes with her large hand that she may more clearly discern a possible approaching enemy. The baby impatiently observes the movements of its father, because it, too, is thirsty, and it and the mother must wait until the father is fully satisfied. When he is done he will, in turn, take the place of sentinel while they drink.
