Golden Bowerbird (Prionodura newtoniana)
The Golden Bowerbird is the smallest of Australia's bowerbirds, yet it builds the largest bower. The maypole-style bower is built from two columns of sticks up to 3 metres tall, joined at the base, supported by vertical saplings. A display perch acts as a bridge between the columns and the male bowerbird decorates this with clusters of lichen, moss, flowers and fruit before putting on a glittering performance to attract his mate. |
