Description
English: This lone Masked Finfoot (Heliopais personata) was photographed on 07 Feb 2007 in a pond at FRIM -a reserve at the northern outskirts of Kuala Lumpur. This is supposedly a female but it has a 'horn' that occurs on male. So there had been some controversies on its true gender and age. Its relatively tameness and persistance to the pond for nearly half a hear had made this one of the most watched rarity bird in Malaysia.

The masked finfoot or Asian finfoot (Heliopais personatus) is an aquatic bird from the fresh and brackish wetlands of the eastern Indian subcontinent, Indochina, Malaysia and Indonesia. Like the rest of the family, the African finfoot and the sungrebe, the relationship to other birds is poorly understood. Order: Gruiformes, Family: Heliornithidae, Genus: Heliopais, Species: Heliopais personatus (G.R. Gray, 1849).
