Wedge-tailed Shearwaters have a dark brown to brownish-gray back with white underparts. They have a long tail that is held at a point and has a wedge shape when it is fanned. Adults typically have a wingspan of a little more than 3 feet and have an average life span of 10-11 years. Wedge-tailed Shearwaters are monogamous birds that nest in shallow burrows one to two meters in length. A pair will often sit head to head near their burrow entrance and sing two-part wailing duets.
