These birds just arrived in this area about 5 years ago. They were
originally native to the southwestern US, but about 50 years ago several
were released in New York City and they have been steadily spreading since
then.
I'm not sure where they go in the winter -- but they disapear during the
more cold months around here. With this year's mild winter they are back
early, and this was the first one I actually SAW this year (started hearing
them a couple of weeks ago.)
