Lesser kiskadee

Lesser Kiskadee in Suriname

The photo above the text was made by Erik Toorman in July 2007
on the grounds of the adek university in Paramaribo. The photo
below was made along the Coesewijne river, just above the water,
in Suriname March 2001 by Ribot. The Lesser Kiskadee prefers wet
places, especially marshes in the coastal area. It has a smaller,
longer bill than the more common Great Kiskadee and a different
call. In the recording from Otte Ottema, made in a swamp near
Palumeu in Suriname, you hear the "kiskadee" sound of
the Great kiskadee nd a
call
from the lesser kiskadee

Each small square indicates the observation of at least one
(group) of these birds in Surinam, the medium ones at least 4
observations on different days and the largest ones 10 or more.
The color of each square indicates: blue for coastal area, yellow
for savanna and red for rainforest. Uncommon to common in wet
places in the coastal area (blue), rare in savanna (yellow) or in
the rainforest (red).
