DescriptionTaiwan Partridge is about 22~25 cm; feet—red; lores—brown with black edges; forehead—grey, head and neck to back is primarily olive-brown, with black bracket-shaped markings; wings have brown and light grayish-brown interchanging horizontal stripes; cheek, throat, and fore-neck connects into a band of white markings, both sides of neck are black; breast is blueish-gray with white vertical lines; below the belly—milky white; undertail coverts—light soil yellow with black horizontal stripes; rounded body with very short tail.
Habits: Taiwan Partridge is an endemic species in Taiwan. It mainly lives in the bottom layer of deciduous forests at low altitudes, and would walk around the edges of the forest from time to time. Taiwan Partridge is extremely elusive, not easily to be found. It makes the continuous sound of ascending “gu-lu, gu-lu…”, and it calls primarily at early dawn in non-breeding seasons. It feeds on earthworms, insects, leaflets, fruits, and seeds, etc.
