The spectral bat (Vampyrum spectrum) is the largest species of bats found in North and South America. They can weigh anywhere from .4-1 pound and have been known to have a wingspan of over 3 feet from wingtip to wingtip. They have large rounded ears as well as a distinctive "noseleaf" from which its family name is generated. It can also be separated from other families of bats by its total lack of a tail, which is unusual among bat species. |
