* Ardea flavicollis = Ixobrychus flavicollis (Black Bittern)
The Black Bittern (Ixobrychus flavicollis) is a bird of Old World origin, and is found in tropical Asia from Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka east to China, Indonesia, and Australia. The black bittern is mainly resident, but some northern bitterns migrate short distances. It breeds in reed beds and nests on platforms of reeds in shrubs or trees. The black bittern feeds on insects, fish, and amphibians. It is a fairly large species, being by some margin the largest bittern in the genus Ixobrychus, with a length of 58 cm. The adult is uniformly black above, with yellow neck sides, and is whitish below, heavily streaked with brown. The juvenile is like the adult, but dark brown rather than black.
