The Japanese spider crab (タカアシガニ takaashigani, lit. "tall-legged crab"), Macrocheira kaempferi, is a species of marine crab that lives in the waters around Japan. It has the largest leg span of any arthropod. It is the subject of small-scale fishery which has led to some conservation measures. Order: Decapoda, Infraorder: Brachyura, Superfamily: Majoidea, Family: Inachidae, Genus: Macrocheira, Species: Macrocheira kaempferi (Temminck, 1836).
