環頸雉屬於草原雉，棲息於茅草原、甘蔗園或蕃薯園。???的??????健，善於奔走，飛行有力???飛得不遠，若遇險會就地衝至上方而後滑翔逃匿。在春天的繁殖期，雄雉天剛亮就「歌--歌--」鳴叫，十分???脆。

營巢於甘蔗園裡或草叢間的地面凹陷處，由雌鳥抱卵育雛。主食野生植物之果實、種???、嫩芽、幼葉、殼類以及昆蟲。
