From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

[Photo] Blacksmiths in Channel Islands National Marine Sanctuary. Blacksmith (Chromis punctipinnis) live in loose schools which when being cleaned by parasite eating fish, form a tight ball and hang upside down, each fish waiting it's turn to be cleaned. The blacksmiths themselves like to munch on zooplankton, cope pods, crustacean larvae and eggs.

The blacksmith (Chromis punctipinnis) is a fish native to the eastern Pacific Ocean. It's range is from Monterey Bay, California to central Baja California, Mexico.

The blacksmith reaches a maximum size of 25 cm and is dark blue.
