Indian roller (Coracias benghalensis)
With their thickset bodies, large heads and stout, slightly hooked beaks, rollers resemble brightly-coloured crows, and many utter harsh, crow-like calls. The resemblance is so strong that the English-speaking colonists of India gave the Indian roller the misleading name 'Indian blue jay' because of its similarity to the Eurasian jay - a colourful member of the crow family. |
