This salamander is a newt, genus Taricha, from
western coastal regions of North America.

This is either a california newt or a rough-skinned newt. They are very close or possibly the same. They may secrete toxins through the skin when alarmed. I have kept them and handled them significantly for years and seen no evidence though. they can co-habitate with aquarium fish if they are a fast species. feed them frozen blood worms or garden worms cut into 1 to 2 inch chunks |
