Alligator gar, primitive freshwater bony fish found in shallow weedy waters of North America, east of the Rocky Mountains. Its long cylindrical body is covered with bony diamond-shaped flat plates. It has a "snout" studded with teeth, and vertebrae resembling those of reptiles. Length: to 3.05m; weight: to 136kg. Family Lepisosteidae; species Atractosteus spatula. |
