This is a Giant Hornet, Vespa mandarinia, one of the largest wasps in the world.

i seen what i think is a hornet but not sure the species. i live in southeastern va the hornet is about 2 in length as big around as a number 1 pencil ( the big fat ones) half its body is dark orange and the other half with the stinger is black and white striped. i have seen these here my whole life and never known what species it was
