The green-tailed jacamar (Galbula galbula) is a species of bird in the family Galbulidae. It is native to Brazil, Colombia, French Guiana, Guyana, Suriname, and Venezuela. Its natural habitats are moist lowland forests, both tropical and subtropical, and heavily degraded former forest. Order: Piciformes, Family: Galbulidae, Genus: Galbula, Species: Galbula galbula (Linnaeus, 1766).

Taxonomy: Alcedo Galbula Linnaeus, 1766, Cayenne and Brazil = Cayenne.
Traditionally considered to form a species-group with G. ruficauda, G. tombacea, G. cyanescens and G. pastazae. Thought to have hybridized with G. leucogastra in Suriname. Monotypic.
Distribution:
E Colombia (Vichada, Meta), S & E Venezuela (S of R Orinoco), the Guianas and N Brazil (S to lower reaches of R Madeira and R Tapajós). |
