Eurasian goshawk (Accipiter gentilis)
One of the fiercest birds of prey, the Eurasian goshawk can kill mammals as large as hares, and birds as large as pheasants and even capercaillies (huge turkey-sized birds). Like its relative, the sparrowhawk, it hunts in woodland, dashing skillfully through the trees and taking its prey by surprise. |
