The Savannah Monitor (Varanus exanthematicus) gets its Latin name from the unkeeled scales on the back of the neck which could be said to erupt, and its common name from the impression that it lives on the African savannah in the wild. The term savannah monitor is also used in reference to several other species of savannah-dwelling monitors. |

looks more like a black throught monitor, which also live in africa I think in the savannah. the black throught is bigger and "blacker" lol V. albigularis |

hi..I'm just a pet owner of just 25 lizards and I think its a blackthroat.. i have 1 called "Spike" and when he has a bad shed his black throat doesn't show well head on and it looks exactly like this pic whereas my savannah called "Taz" who looks similar doesn't quite have the same head lines. but its one for the experts.
