Atlantic Triton's trumpet (Charonia variegata)
The Atlantic Triton's trumpet (Charonia variegata) is a marine species of predatory snail, in the family Ranellidae. The shell size varies between 100mm and 374mm. Veliger larvae have a pelagic development period of more than three months, adrift in trans-Atlantic currents. These larvae are the largest known of any Cymatiidae in the Atlantic. It is listed as of special interest by the Government of the Canary Islands in 2009. |
