Minke whale
Minke are the world's most-hunted whale species, with Japan killing up to 440 minke whales each year for "scientific research" and Norway hunting over 500 a year.
There are two species of minke whale, and the numbers of both are highly contentious. The International Whaling Commission is currently reviewing its decade-old estimated global total of 0.64 million 1.37 million.
