A unique relative of the seal, the walrus, is assigned a family of its own. It feeds on molluscs which it rakes up from the seabed with its large tusks. A large male (a bull) may be more than 3 metres (7 feet) long and weigh a tonne. The tusks may reach 1 metre (39 inches) in length. |
