Marbled lungfish (Protopterus aethiopicus)
The marbled lungfish is aquatic, though adults of this species can survive in areas that have no rain for portions of the year. In a dry season, they enter a period of slowed activity and metabolism called aestivation and remain in a mucous lined burrow until the next rain. |
