Sierra Nevada Bighorn Sheep, Ovis canadensis sierrae, Mt. Langley Herd. Listed as threatened under California Endangered Speciaes Act since 1974. Uplisted to endangered in 1999 by Califonia Fish and Game Commission. Listed as endangered by USFWS under the US Endangered Species Act in 2000.Upper Soldier Lake, Sequoia National Park, 36 30 16 N, 118 15 32 W, 11,211 ft elevation.Lodgepole and Foxtail pines.

The bighorn sheep (Ovis canadensis) is a species of sheep native to North America named for its large horns. Bighorn sheep are named for the large, curved horns borne by the rams (males). Ewes (females) also have horns, but they are shorter with less curvature. |
