 Size: 30cm
 
 Habitat: Found across the Top end and down the East Coast of Australia into Victoria and parts of South Australia, also in the Southern half of Western Australia. This bird inhabits freshwater to brackish swamps, and the margins of mangroves, feeds on plant matter, molluscs and seeds.
 
 Notes: Grey throat , white eye brow, chestnut eye stripe. Distinctive banding under belly. Red Eyes. Breeds Spring-Summer.
