The Eurasian white admiral (Limenitis camilla) is a butterfly of the Nymphalidae family. It is found in woodland throughout southern Britain and much of Europe and Asia, extending as far east as Japan.

The small tortoiseshell (Aglais urticae) is a colourful Eurasian butterfly in the family Nymphalidae. It is found throughout temperate Europe, Asia Minor, Central Asia, Siberia, China, Mongolia, Korea and Japan. The small tortoiseshell is the national butterfly of Denmark.

The mourning cloak or Camberwell beauty (Nymphalis antiopa) is a large butterfly native to Eurasia and North America.

The European peacock or simply peacock butterfly (Aglais io formerly Inachis io) is a colourful butterfly, found in Europe and temperate Asia as far east as Japan.

The red admiral (Vanessa atalanta) is a well-known colourful butterfly, found in temperate Europe, Asia and North America.

The painted lady (Vanessa cardui) is a well-known colourful butterfly known as the cosmopolitan in North America. This butterfly has a strange pattern of flying in a sort of screw shape.

The map butterfly (Araschnia levana) is a butterfly of the Nymphalidae family. It is common throughout the lowlands of central and eastern Europe, and is expanding its range in western Europe.
