The fallow deer is well adapted to avoiding predators. Its speckled coat provides superb camouflage in the dappled woodland light and its large eyes - placed on the sides of the head - give the deer good all-round vision. While grazing, the deer will suddenly lift its head and look around for any threat, at the same time turning its large, sensitive ears in the direction of suspicious sounds. |
