cayenne jay

Cayenne jay, Cyanocorax cayanus in Suriname

Photo of a Cayenne jay, made by N. Takano (
personal
museum of natural history
, his copyright as with all the
other photographers) in August 2004 near the Voltzberg in the
central suriname nature reserve (CSNR), a protected reserve with
an enormous surface of more than one million hectares, with more
than 500 species of birds. The cayenne jay is mostly seen in
savanna forests, in small groups. It is the only member of its
family (the crows) in Suriname. A
sound
of the Cayenne jay
was recorded by Ottema at Vier Kinderen
(more like a whistle), while a group of lilac-tailed parrotlets
flew overhead. The jay can make a lot more noise.
